Martial art has become one of the most acclaimed and respected skills. Contrary to the traditional mind set that people had concerning martial art that it is for the violent and hostile people, the need for these arts is largely embraced. Over the past few years, people have come to associate martial arts with self defense, with everybody having different preferences of martial arts like Karate and Aikido.
However, one big question concerning these arts is bound to be asked- Are martial arts only for self defense? This article highlights some of the benefits of Aikido as a martial art.

With the movement of different body parts and joints, one is able to keep his muscles strong. Aikido is not only meant for physical strength because it is known for boosting breathing and improving mental acuity.
Aikido is like meditation. It is an art that enables one to have confidence and keeping pressure away. In case of a conflict, an Aikido equipped person will always demonstrate a mild confidence and self esteem. As mentioned in my earlier articles, Aikido is connected to a religion and supernatural beliefs. With a good background, you are bound to build on your view of the world and improve on your confidence.
Respect and Discipline
Looking at Aikido from another angle, you will come to understand that Aikido is not a war oriented art, as a matter of fact; the art focuses on defending not attacking, in short making peace. You will improve on self discipline and respect for human life when you understand the techniques and values of Aikido.
Aikido is a social art. It is not possible to train alone. You learn new techniques and values when you train Aikido because you will always be surrounded by people.
